Zinus Green Tea Mattress Review
Editor’s Rating – 6.8/10
Nowadays, foam mattresses are much more popular than traditional innersprings. In fact, with so many mattress start-ups introducing their own take on the material—often with fancy specialty foams and high-tech cooling infusions—it’s tough for a foam mattress to stand out.
Zinus’ Green Tea Mattress is notable for three main reasons: its patented BioFoam comfort layer, its customizability, and its price. While traditional memory foam mattresses are infamous for sleeping hot, Zinus has infused the topmost layer with green tea, charcoal, and castor oil—a combination that keeps sleepers cool and wicks away moisture while also keeping musty smells at bay. Additionally, while most memory foam mattresses come in a set height, Zinus offers its Green Tea Mattress in four different thickness options—6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch—
making it suitable for any sleeping position. Finally, with most sizes falling under $200, it’s one of the most affordable memory foam mattresses on the market, making it an excellent choice for sleepers on a budget who don’t want to compromise on comfort and support.

How is the Zinus Green Tea mattress built?
The Zinus Green Tea Mattress’ construction differs between its four thickness options. See the table above for a break-down of specs and measurements.
All thickness options are protected by a cover made out of knitted jacquard. This provides the mattress with a plush surface, as well as a slight texture that some sleepers may be able to feel beneath thinner sheets.
Underneath the cover sits a comfort layer made out of the brand’s signature BioFoam—a patented memory foam infused with green tea, ActivCharcoal, and castor oil. These infusions have odor-repellent and moisture-wicking properties and combat memory foam’s notorious lack of temperature control by helping sleepers stay relatively cool throughout the night. The height of the comfort layer varies according to which thickness option you choose.
Beneath the Zinus Green Tea’s comfort layer is a transition layer made of pressure-relieving comfort foam. This material works with the comfort layer by reinforcing its contouring properties and cushioning your pressure points. Only the 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch options come with this transition layer. The 12-inch option also comes with a high-density foam layer between the transition layer and the support core.
The Zinus Green Tea’s support core is made of a high-density base support foam. This stabilizes the mattress and keeps the sleeper’s spine aligned. While the 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch options have a support base at around the same height (5 to 5.5 inches), the 12-inch option’s support base is thinner, measuring 3.5 inches thick. Instead, it works together with another layer of 3.5-inch thick high-density foam to create a 7-inch support core.
How does the Zinus Green Tea perform?
How does it feel?
Like other memory foam mattresses, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress has a high amount of cushioning and is far plusher than mattresses made of other materials. The thicker the mattress, the softer it gets.
This makes it ideal for lighter individuals who fall below 130 pounds, especially those who require extra cushioning for pressure points and achy joints. Stomach sleepers in this weight range will prefer the thinner and firmer 6-inch and 8-inch options, while side sleepers should opt for the thicker and plusher 10-inch and 12-inch options. Back sleepers below 230 pounds will be satisfied with 8-inch and 10-inch options.
While sleepers above 230 pounds would also benefit from its high-conformity feel, the mattress is not supportive enough to keep their spines safely aligned.
Is it supportive?
When it comes to mattresses, the term “support” is often used interchangeably with “firmness.” However, they refer to completely different features. Support refers to how well a mattress keeps a sleeper’s spine aligned in its natural curve and depends on factors like preferred sleeping position and weight. For example, a 230-pound stomach sleeper may require a very firm mattress for adequate support. However, that same mattress would throw a 105-pound side sleeper’s spine out of alignment, and would therefore be considered unsupportive for that specific person.
The Zinus Green Tea Mattress’ support core is made out of a high-density support polyfoam. It provides excellent support for sleepers below 130 lbs, as well as some sleepers between 130 and 230 lbs, depending on the thickness option. None of its four thickness options offers adequate support for sleepers above 230 lbs.
Does it have edge support?
As the name suggests, edge support refers to the amount of support a mattress provides around its perimeter. Mattresses with good edge support will be able to remain sturdy and upright when you roll towards the edge or get up out of bed, while those with poor edge support will sag considerably under the same circumstances. As with other all-foam mattresses, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress offers less support than innerspring and innerspring hybrids. That said, the 6-inch and 8-inch thickness options will provide more support at the edge than the thicker models.
How does it handle motion? Is it responsive?
Motion isolation in a mattress dictates whether one sleeper will be able to feel another sleeper’s movements when they share a bed. The more conforming and cushioning a mattress is, the better it is at isolating motion. This means all-foam and foam hybrid mattresses tend to offer superior motion isolation compared to innerspring and latex mattresses, which typically have a high degree of motion transfer. Like other mattresses of its kind, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress offers excellent motion isolation, especially in its thicker models.
Motion isolation is somewhat related to responsiveness, which refers to how quickly a mattress will react when you exert pressure, weight, or force. For example, when you put your hand down and then let go, how quickly will the mattress bounce back to its original shape? In general, innerspring and latex mattresses are very responsive, while traditional memory foam mattresses take a lot longer to respond. (This is also why innerspring and latex mattresses tend to be better for sex.) Like other foam mattresses, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress is less responsive than beds made of bouncier materials, although you’ll find the 6-inch and 8-inch models more responsive than the 10-inch and 12-inch options.
Does it regulate temperature? Does it sleep hot?
Due to their density and high contouring properties, traditional memory foam mattresses are notorious for not regulating temperature well. In recent years, however, mattress manufacturers have tried to solve this problem by introducing specialty foams like gel-infused and open-cell foams. Zinus’ infusions of choice are green tea, castor oil, and charcoal, which have cooling and moisture-wicking properties. While it still won’t sleep as cool as a mattress made out of more breathable materials like innerspring coils or latex, the Zinus Green Tea will sleep cooler than the majority of mattresses made out of traditional memory foam.
Does it have a smell?
The vast majority of brand-new foam and latex mattresses will give off a noticeable smell when first unpackaged. This process is known as off-gassing, and like other memory foam mattresses, the Zinus Green Tea’s off-gassing odor is quite strong. This smell should go away within a few days to a week at most, after it’s fully decompressed.
How durable is it?
Because BioFoam—the green tea-, castor oil-, and charcoal-infused memory foam used in the Zinus Green Tea Mattress—was first introduced in 2007, it isn’t possible to collect long-term data about the mattress’ longevity. That said, the green tea-infusion will keep this mattress preserved longer than one made out of an untreated memory foam. Based on its manufacturing, we expect it to last at least 6 years. Additionally, every Zinus mattress purchased directly from the brand’s website comes with a 10-year limited warranty.
Who is the Zinus Green Tea mattress best suited for?
Back, Side, and Stomach Sleepers
Back, side, and stomach sleepers of average weight will all find the Zinus Green Tea Mattress suitable for their needs. Its thicker 10-inch and 12-inch options provide the right amount of contouring and targeted support to cushion the pressure points of side sleepers. Meanwhile, its 8-inch and 10-inch models balance contouring and support at the ideal level for back sleepers. Finally, its thinner 6-inch and 8-inch options are firm enough to support the midsections of stomach sleepers.
Due to its relative thinness, softness, and all-foam construction, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress doesn’t provide reliable support for anyone above 230 pounds. For sleepers below this weight-range, however, all four thickness options should be enough to safely and comfortably support their body, while also providing the amount of cushioning necessary for keeping their pressure points relieved and their spines aligned. The thicker options might be a better fit for individuals under 130 pounds.
Customers On a Budget
Costing as much as many mattress toppers, the Zinus Green Tea is exceptionally cheap for a memory foam mattress of its caliber. This makes it an excellent deal for sleepers shopping on a budget.
As with other all-foam mattresses, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress is not the most suitable for individuals who weigh above 230 pounds, regardless of their preferred sleeping position. All thickness options will still be too soft and thin for these sleepers, who should look for a firmer mattress with a more supportive core instead—ideally an innerspring or an innerspring hybrid. Additionally, back and stomach sleepers of average weight will have mixed results, depending on the thickness option. Side sleepers will likely find the 6-inch option too firm and thin for comfort.

Zinus Green Tea Mattress Review – Conclusion
The Zinus Green Tea Mattress is best for average-weight sleepers on the lookout for an affordable memory foam mattress that won’t sleep too hot. Its topmost BioFoam comfort layer balances the signature “hugging” conformity of foam with moisture-wicking, odor-repellent, and cooling properties that won’t be found in traditional memory foams, while its exceptionally low price point makes it an attractive choice for those on a budget.
Additionally, the mattress’ range of thickness options means it works for any sleeping position. Back, stomach, and side sleepers should be able to find a height that works well for them, depending on their weight. That’s the mattress’ main drawback: While sleepers between 130-230 lbs will be able to find adequate support in few thickness options, depending on their preferred sleeping position, the Zinus Green Tea is too thin and soft for individuals above 230 lbs.
For sleepers outside of this category, though, it’s a solid, frill-free, affordable, and customizable choice that should last them for at least the next 6 years.
