Luxury bedding brand Boll & Branch was launched in 2014 by Scott and Missy Tannen, a husband-and-wife team who were frustrated with the lack of transparency in the cotton sheets industry. Boll & Branch works closely with farmers and factory workers in the developing world to ensure ethical working conditions and sustainable farming practices.

Currently, Boll & Branch makes four sheet collections: Signature Soft, Chambray, Percale, and Flannel. Boll & Branch also sells seasonal collections. All of the cotton used to make Boll & Branch sheets is GOTS-certified, Fair Trade, and 100% organic with STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification. In addition to sheets, Boll & Branch offers duvets, blankets, sheets for baby cribs, and other bedding. The company sells a mattress and has a bath & home line as well.

Materials and Construction

Boll & Branch offers four sheet collections: Signature Soft, Percale, Flannel, and Chambray. The company also has a seasonal Linen collection that is only available in summer. In this section, we’ll go through the construction and the materials used to make the sheets and explain how these affect the sleep experience.

  • Signature Soft: The Signature Soft collection by Boll & Branch is woven with a four-over, one-under sateen weave. This makes the sheets feel soft and silky, and gives them a slight sheen. These sheets shouldn’t wrinkle very much, although they may be ironed. The sheets are made with organic cotton, a popular choice for bedding due to its natural breathability and versatility. Free from the harsh chemicals that are often added to bedding, organic cotton is hypoallergenic, durable, and easy to care for. Boll & Branch Signature Soft sheets have a 300 thread count.
  • Percale: One of the most popular weaves in the bedding industry, percale sheets are made with a one-over, one-under weave that lends the sheets their classic crisp feel. Percale sheets are breathable and ideal for people who tend to sleep hot. Boll & Branch percale sheets are made with organic cotton and have a thread count of 360.
  • Flannel: Flannel sheets are typically made with cotton, wool, or blended natural and synthetic fibers. Boll & Branch flannel sheets are made with organic cotton using thicker yarns that are then brushed and sheared to make a soft, fluffy surface. Flannel insulates extremely well, making it a great option for keeping warm in the winter. Despite this, it’s also breathable and will wick moisture away from your body, preventing you from getting sweaty. While poor-quality flannel can pill and even shrink, high-quality flannel can be very durable. Boll & Branch makes its flannel sheets in Portugal, which is considered one of the best countries in the world for producing flannel.
  • Chambray: Chambray is a fabric woven with a white weft and a colored warp, producing the textured look with white accents that is also characteristic of denim. In contrast to denim, however, chambray uses a simple one-over, one-under weave that makes it lighter and softer. Originally made with linen, today’s chambray fabrics are usually produced using 100% cotton. The Boll & Branch Chambray sheets are smooth and breathable.

Boll & Branch Sheet Design Options

For many shoppers, matching the sheets to the bedroom is almost as important as the comfort of the sheets themselves, and even people who aren’t focused on interior design still want their sheets to look good. Boll & Branch offers an understated color palette with simple, elegant designs mostly featuring solid colors, stripes, or plaid.

The Natural color option is made with untouched and undyed cotton and will have some natural imperfections, while the Ivory option is a solid cream color. Boll & Branch also occasionally releases limited editions with seasonal colors and designs.

Cleaning and Care for Boll & Branch Sheets

Caring for your Boll & Branch sheets will depend on what type you’ve purchased. In all cases, avoid bleach and fabric softeners and try to wash the sheets separately from towels. Because Boll & Branch doesn’t add chemicals and waxes to its sheets to prevent wrinkles, these sheets may wrinkle more than usual. Shaking out your sheets before putting them in the dryer and quickly taking them out once they are dry will help reduce wrinkles.

Cotton: Wash in cold water (colors) or warm water (white, natural, or ivory) and machine-dry on medium heat. Iron on warm if desired. Chambray should be washed in cold water to prevent shrinking; though usually not necessary, it can be safely ironed.

Flannel: Wash in cold or warm water, avoid using fabric softener with flannel sheets, and line-dry or tumble dry on low heat. Some people recommend adding half a cup of white vinegar the first time you wash your flannel sheets to increase their longevity.

Most customers report that Boll & Branch sheets are easy to care for and hold up well after multiple washes.
