Tuft & Needle launched in 2012 and disrupted the traditional mattress industry with its simplified online shopping experience and affordable foam mattress shipped direct to your doorstep. Building on years of growth, Tuft & Needle launched a second mattress as well a collection of other products like bedding, bedroom furniture, a pillow, and a mattress topper.
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is known as the Tuft & Needle Plush Pillow Top. It is constructed with the company’s popular Adaptive Foam. Adaptive Foam is a specialty polyfoam that provides gentle contouring and pressure relief without problems of heat buildup or motion transfer.
The topper is two inches thick and available in one firmness option. It is softer than the original Tuft & Needle mattress. It pairs well with the Tuft & Needle mattresses, but it is also compatible with virtually any mattress that is a standard size.
In 2018, Tuft & Needle merged with Serta Simmons Bedding, a major company in the industry. Although their corporate structure has changed, Tuft & Needle still focuses on affordability, quality, and a positive customer service experience. The company is socially conscious with activities like coordinating school fundraising, donating mattresses, and volunteering with non-profit organizations.

Upgrading your current mattress with a mattress topper is generally less expensive than purchasing a new mattress altogether. Mattress toppers range in price, so it is important to take your budget into consideration when shopping for a topper. High-quality materials and construction increase the durability and lifespan of a mattress topper.
Tuft & Needle strives to keep its products affordable. As a result, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is moderately priced and a solid value. With its high-quality foam construction and supportive design, it an investment worth considering.
Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper Performance
A mattress topper will change the overall feel and comfort level of your current mattress. However, as it is two inches thick, the Tuft & Needle topper won’t completely reverse the feel of your present mattress. In the section below, we take a closer look at how the Tuft & Needle topper performs when it comes to support, contouring, temperature neutrality, motion isolation, and more.
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is made from Adaptive Foam that is proprietary to Tuft & Needle. This foam is responsive and supportive, allowing it to relieve pressure points and keep your spine aligned.
The adaptive Tuft & Needle foam conforms to your body for pressure point relief. It is more resilient than memory foam, so it bounces back quickly. This prevents the feeling of sinking in that is frequently associated with memory foam.
The foam used in the Tuft & Needle topper is open-cell polyurethane foam. This foam is more breathable than memory foam and does not retain significant heat. As a result, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper stays temperature neutral to keep you from sleeping hot.
The foam does not transfer much motion. However, as it is a thinner layer, it will not eliminate all disruptions if your underlying mattress transfers a lot of motion.
The responsive nature of the Tuft & Needle foam facilitates movement better than memory foam, making it better for sex than many toppers.
The all-foam construction is silent when bearing weight, so you shouldn’t hear any noise from the Tuft & Needle mattress topper.
What Type of Sleeper is Good for a Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper?
Your sleeping position affects how you’ll perceive the support and comfort of a bed. Every sleeping position has unique needs for optimum performance.
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is designed to add softness and responsiveness to your bed. While it will not drastically change your mattress, it will provide comfort and pressure point relief. The foam cushions pressure points, which is ideal for side sleepers who need cushioning for their shoulders and hips. For back sleepers, the gentle contouring nature of the foam conforms to the lower back area for spinal alignment and support. Stomach sleepers should still feel supported in their hips and abdomen. Those who are lightweight to average weight will likely feel the benefits of the Tuft & Needle mattress topper more than those who have a higher body weight: people over 230 pounds may find that they sink too deeply into this topper.
|Lightweight Sleepers (Less than 130lb)||Average-weight Sleepers (130-230lb)||Heavyweight Sleepers (More than 230lb)|
|Side Sleepers||Very Good||Good||Good|
|Back Sleepers||Very Good||Very Good||Fair|
|Stomach Sleepers||Very Good||Good||Fair|
Materials and Construction
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is made from two inches of adaptive open-cell polyurethane foam. This soft foam is more breathable than memory foam and has better temperature regulation. The responsive foam provides gentle contouring that relieves pressure points and promotes proper spinal alignment. This provides a comfortable feel without allowing excessive sinking into the foam. The luxe fabric cover is a polyester blend that helps prevent your sheets from bunching up on the mattress topper. Though the topper does not have any straps or attachments to secure it to the mattress, it does feature a silicone beading on the bottom to keep it in place. In addition, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is certified by CertiPUR-US, UL Greenguard, and Interlek. It is made without the use of harmful chemicals or toxins.

How to Use Your Mattress Topper
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is compressed, sealed in plastic, and shipped in a small box. It is lightweight and relatively easy to set up. Unbox the mattress topper in the bedroom and unroll the topper on top of your mattress, carefully removing the plastic wrap. Align the corners of the topper with your mattress. The silicone beading should go on the bottom and helps to keep the mattress in place. The topper does not need time to expand; you can sleep on it immediately. You can put your fitted sheet on over the topper and mattress, applying it snugly to further limit any motion of the topper. Because the topper adds two inches to your mattress height, you may need fitted sheets with a deep pocket.
To keep your mattress topper clean, it is important to follow recommendations from the manufacturer. The Tuft & Needle mattress topper can be spot-cleaned only. Tuft & Needle recommends spot cleaning with a mild detergent and water, and to soak up as much of the water as possible after cleaning. Allow the topper to air dry before putting bedding back on it. The topper is not machine washable, and should not be dry cleaned or bleached. To prevent stains, you can use a mattress protector on top of the Tuft & Needle mattress topper, though it should be lightweight so you still feel the benefits of the topper.
