The Yogabed Original is available in one firmness option, which falls around a 6.5 on the firmness scale. (This scale is from 1-10, with 1 being the least firm and 1 being the most firm.) This is considered a medium-firm mattress. That’s generally a good place to start for most customers. If you know that you prefer a more plush, softer mattress, the Yogabed Original might be a bit too firm for you.
The Yogabed Original is a foam mattress, constructed in four primary layers. The support core is formed by two separate components. The bottom layer is 2 inches of support foam with a 1.8 PCF (pounds per cubic foot) density and 40 ILD (indentation deflectation).
The next layer is 5 inches of breathable base foam with a 1.8 PCF density. These layers work together to provide a very firm support base that helps maintain shape throughout the mattress. Moving into the comfort layers, next comes 2 inches of 4 PCF gel-infused memory foam with “YogaGel technology,” which provides cushion, disperses impact and helps keeps the bed cool.
The top layer is 1 inch of “Instant Response YogaFoam.” It’s a proprietary blend that has a feel and response similar to latex, and removes that “sinking in” feeling that most foam mattresses have. The Yogabed’s removable zip cover is a woven blend of polyester that incorporates ThermaCool technology, another defense against a hot night’s sleep.
The Yogabed Original is compressed, rolled, and sealed in plastic before being shipped to your door in a labeled box. There are no parts or assembly required.
Shipping is free within the continental United States. The company does not deliver to Alaska, Hawaii, or international addresses at this time. Mattresses are typically shipped within two days of ordering and arrive 2-6 days later via FedEx Ground.
When the Yogabed arrives, it is best to remove it from its packaging as soon as possible. The bed will need a few hours to completely decompress and regain its full shape.
Yogabed offers a 101-night sleep trial. The company does require, however, that you keep the bed for at least 30 nights before initiating a return. If at any time between 30-101 nights you decide the bed isn’t right for you, Yogabed will arrange to have it removed and return your full purchase price.
Yogabed offers a 10-year prorated warranty on its mattress. Full details are not available online, so we would advise you to contact the company for a full warranty description before purchasing.
Yogabed does not provide in-home delivery or old mattress removal at this time.
Yogabed Mattress Performance
Yogabed’s foam layers do an excellent job of trapping and isolating motion. This keeps movement from traveling across the bed and disturbing a sleeping partner. The motion trapping found in a lot of memory foam beds is not fully replicated in the Yogabed, where there is some minimal movement felt across the mattress.
Foam mattresses typically do not have reinforced perimeters and customers often complain that this eventually leads to sagging around the edges. The Yogabed is not immune to this problem and customers have reported premature sagging around the edges in places where they normally sleep or sit.
Another common complaint of foam mattresses is their tendency to trap heat and sleep rather warm. Yogabed attempts to address this issue by using ThermaCool technology in the cover and “YogaGel” infused in the memory foam. Some customers still say, however, that the Yogabed sleeps on the warmer side.
Off-gassing is a temporary smell that commonly occurs when a mattress is first removed from its packaging. The Yogabed – as is typical with all “bed in a box” brands – will likely emit an odor at first, but this will quickly dissipate, usually within a few hours.
Support keeps your body and spine aligned while you sleep and is one of the most important functions of a mattress. The Yogabed uses specially-design, high-density foams that should provide most sleepers with comfortable support and alignment. Specifically, the dense support layers used in this mattress give it a sturdy foundation that supports the comfort layers above.
These specially-designed foams in the Yogabed were made specifically to offer the conforming properties of memory foam, without the sinkage and other drawbacks. The Yogabed, therefore, doesn’t conform as closely as memory foam but does still offer adequate pressure point relief.
High densities foams like the ones used in the Yogabed generally hold up quite well over time. Because Yogabed has only been on the market for a few years, we don’t yet have hard data to confirm the bed’s long-term durability.
Foam beds in general tend to restrict movement, as they sink and conform to heat and pressure. Because of this, they are not ideal for sexual activity. That said, the Yoga Instant Response Foam used on the top of the mattress is designed to respond quickly, making it a touch more suitable to amorous activities.

What Type of Sleeper Is Well Suited to the Marpac Yogabed?
Whenever we review a mattress, we remind you that choosing the best bed for you is a very personal decision. It’s a choice heavily depending on your own personal preferences: your typical sleeping position, body weight and type, and any health conditions you may have to consider. Individual factors such as comfort and spinal support must also be considered. It’s important to take advantage of any sleep trial offered by the manufacturer to make sure whatever bed you choose is the right one for you.
With that in mind, consider this subject feedback from other customers:
Side Sleepers: Side sleepers of all sizes gave the Yogabed good marks. LIghtweight sleepers (those weighing less than 130 lbs) found the Yogabed to be the most comfortable, rating it as “very good.”
Back Sleepers: The Yogabed did even better with back sleepers, with both lightweight and average-weight sleepers (those weighing between 130-230 lbs) rating the bed “very good.”
Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers weren’t quite as impressed with the Yogabed. Both average and heavyweight sleepers rated it as “fair,” but lightweight sleepers still said it was “good.” Stomach sleepers might find the bed a bit too firm to be comfortable.

The Yogabed is only available in one firmness option, so it won’t be for everyone. Customers who know they prefer a more “plush” feel might look elsewhere.
