The next layer is 2 inches of 1.8 PCF “SmartFlow” polyfoam, followed by 1 inch of 4 PCF Visco memory foam. The final layer is 2.5 inches of 4 PCF gel-infused memory foam. The cover is 1-inch of quilted cotton and stretch polyester.

The Luxury Firm bed has a 7-inch base layer of 1.8 PCF support foam. The next layer here is 2 inches of 1.8 PCF firm “SmartFlow Air Flow” polyfoam, followed by 1.5 inches of 4 PCF Visco memory foam. The top layer is 1 inch of 4 PCF gel-infused memory foam. The cover is the same 1-inch quilted fabric.

Once an Alexander Signature Series bed is constructed, it is compressed, vacuum-sealed in plastic and delivered to your doorstep in a marked box. The bed arrives in one pieces with no assembly required.

Shipping is free within the contiguous United States. Delivery is available to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional fee (approximately $150). Nest also ships to many international destinations, also for an additional fee.

Each Alexander Signature Series bed is made-to-order, a process that takes 2-4 days. The mattress is then sent via FedEx ground, typically arriving 1-5 business days after it is shipped. Expedited shipping is available at an additional cost.

Alexander Signature Series Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The Alexander Signature Series is constructed in several foam layers, which together do an excellent job trapping motion. Foam doesn’t allow motion to transfer across the bed and keeps it from disturbing a sleeping partner.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses like the Signature Series are notorious for poor edge support. Because the bed’s perimeter is not reinforced, it tends to sag. The Signature Series falls victim to this and customers report some sinkage around the edge, particularly where they often sit.

Heat Retention

Foam – particularly memory foam – does tend to sleep warm. The Signature Series attempts to counter this with cooling gel-infused foam in the comfort layers. This helps reduce heat retention, but the mattress may still sleep too hot for some, especially those who tend to sleep hot in general.

When a mattress is compressed and sealed, it typically produced a temporary odor when it is removed from its packaging. This smell is referred to as off-gassing. You should expect this from the Signature Series – feedback indicates that the smell may be fairly strong. But it will only last a day or two.

Support in the Alexander Signature Series comes primarily from memory foam. This foam responds to pressure and heat to provide a “customized” support for each individual sleeper.

A majority of sleepers find that, with these properties, memory foam provides excellent support.

In addition to support, memory foam provides the conforming “hug” that many sleepers look for in a foam mattress. The close conforming foam of the Signature Series helps to relieve pressure points and alleviate pain.

The Alexander Signature Series hasn’t been available long enough to know exactly how it will hold up over time. It’s dense foams would suggest, however, that it will it will have an average lifespan and durability.

Some couples find that memory foam, as it sinks and contours to pressure and heat, prohibits movement and therefore restricts sexual activity. Couples who are particularly worried about this might consider a hybrid or innerspring mattress with more bounce and responsiveness.
