Nest Bedding manufactures a variety of mattresses, including the Alexander Signature Hybrid. It’s one of the few mattresses available as a “bed in a box” that uses innerspring coils in its construction.
The Alexander Signature Hybrid is built in four layers: 8 inches of pocketed support coils, 1 inch of “SmartFlow” support polyfoam, and 3 inches of “Energex” polyfoam.
The mattress cover is quilted foam stuffed with gel-infused memory foam. The bed is available in three different firmness settings. With each firmness setting, the construction stays the same while the foam densities vary slightly. Each firmness setting is available in standard sizes, each 13.5 inches in height.

The Alexander Signature Hybrid is available in three firmness settings: Plush (3), Medium (5) and a Luxury Firm (8). Firmness is based on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the least firm and 10 being the most firm.
The three different firmness settings of the Alexander Signature Hybrid all use the same basic construction, but with slightly different foams and densities. Each mattress starts with 8 inches of individually-pocketed support coils. The next layer is 1 inch of “SmartFlow” support polyfoam, that is designed to increase airflow and help with heat retention. Each firmness level uses 3 PCF (pounds per cubic foot) foam in this layer. The final layer is 3 inches of “Energex” cooling polyfoam. The mattress cover is 1.5 inches of 4 PCF gel-infused memory foam inside a quilted, cooling fabric. This provides a pillowtop-like feel.

Alexander Signature Hybrid Mattress Performance
Hybrids don’t isolate motion as well as all-foam beds typically do, because innersprings allow motion to more easily transfer across the surface of the bed. The Alexander Signature Hybrid, however, has several foam layers on top of its springs. These layers help the bed absorb motion to a significant extent.
The innerspring coil support base of the Alexander Signature Hybrid works to reinforce its perimeter. This provides an even sleeping surface across the entire bed and helps prevent sagging and sinkage around the bed’s edge.
The Alexander Signature Hybrid sleeps relatively cool. The innerspring coils allow for ample airflow, helping to reduce body heat. The foam layers, which generally trap heat, are infused with cooling gel and copper to counteract this common problem.
Whenever a mattress is compressed and vacuum sealed, it tends to produce a temporary odor when it is unboxed. This smell is called “off-gassing.” You should expect to experience this with the Alexander Signature Hybrid, but the smell should dissipate quickly.
The Alexander Signature Hybrid’s coil base provides consistent and responsive support. The foam comfort layers provide pressure point relief and aid in proper spinal alignment. Working together, these layers combine to make a bed that most customers find very supportive.
The foam layers on the Alexander Signature Hybrid do conform quite closely to a sleeper’s body, responding to pressure and heat to provide a “customized” response. The Hybrid won’t provide the tight “hug” typical of memory foam, but it still works to alleviate pain and pressure points.
The Alexander Signature Hybrid has only been available for a few years, making it difficult to know exactly how well it will hold up in the long run. But considering Nest’s reputation for quality products, it is reasonable to assume that their Signature Hybrid will do well over the years.
This hybrid construction has plenty of bounce and responsiveness. It should not restrict movement or at all inhibit sexual activity.
