Boll & Branch launched in 2014, initially focusing on producing luxury sheets using organic, Fair Trade Certified cotton. While the company is best known for its sheets, it also offers blankets, towels, a robe, and more. In 2018, Boll & Branch added a mattress to its product line.

Like the rest of the Boll & Branch line, the Boll & Branch mattress is a luxury product crafted of high-quality materials. The top layer of the mattress is composed of a wool and polyester blend. The next layer uses graphite-infused latex. The third layer of the Boll & Branch mattress is made up of natural Talalay latex. The fourth layer uses over 2,000 micro-coils. The support layer is composed of individually-wrapped coils.

Boll & Branch currently offers just one mattress option, but it can accommodate a variety of sleeping preferences and styles. Read our in-depth review of the Boll & Branch mattress for more information on pricing, construction, performance, customer reviews, and more.

Firmness

The Boll & Branch mattress falls at about a 6 on the firmness scale, making it a medium-firm mattress. Because it falls in the middle of the 10-point scale, this firmness is likely to feel acceptable to most sleepers and promote proper spinal alignment. However, the mattress may be slightly too firm for sleepers under 130 pounds.

After placing your order, you’ll be contacted within 10 business days to arrange a delivery date. Boll & Branch offers complimentary White Glove service, so the mattress will be delivered and set up to a room of your choice.

Additional Service

White glove delivery is free with your purchase. As long as your old mattress is deemed safe enough to move, the shipping carriers can remove it when they deliver your old mattress. They will then recycle or dispose of your old mattress for you. Note that some states have a mattress recycling fee, which Boll & Branch will pay on your behalf.

Sleep Trial

Boll & Branch offers a 100-night sleep trial when you purchase the mattress. If you are not satisfied before the 100-night trial is over, Boll & Branch will pick up the mattress and issue a refund. Boll & Branch Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The Boll & Branch uses two layers of latex. While latex can reduce motion transfer, it does not completely eliminate it, as some memory foam mattresses can. Because of this, you may still feel slight movement when your partner stirs during the night. The individually-wrapped coils in the support layer prevent motion from transferring across the base, however, which does help to minimize disturbances.

Edge Support

Like most hybrid mattresses, the Boll & Branch mattress’s support layer of coils offers good edge support. Memory foam mattresses generally lack edge support, which can make the edge of the bed feel unstable. The Boll & Branch mattress offers enough edge support that you should be able to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed comfortably.

Heat Retention

The Boll & Branch offers very good airflow, which can reduce heat retention and lead to a more comfortable night’s sleep. The top layer uses a wool and polyester blend designed to stay cool and dry. The next layer uses graphite-infused latex to wick heat away from the body. The third layer uses natural Talay latex, which is more breathable than traditional latex. The fourth layer of micro-coils and the support layer of individually-wrapped coils allow for additional breathability.

Off-Gassing

Due to manufacturing, many mattresses may produce a slight odor when first introduced into your home. This odor is not harmful and should dissipate within a few days when you leave your mattress in a well-ventilated space. While the Boll & Branch mattress may let off a slight odor, the combination of innersprings and latex should make it off-gas somewhat less than many memory foam mattresses.

Support

The Boll & Branch mattress can provide appropriate support for a variety of sleepers. The support layer of individually-wrapped coils offers more isolated, precise support to adjust to your body and position. This support can allow the right parts of your body to sink in without allowing you to sink in too deeply, which can promote proper spinal alignment.

Conforming

The Boll & Branch mattress offers numerous layers that offer exceptional contouring. The top layer of the mattress uses a wool and polyester blend to allow you to sink in comfortably. The next two layers are composed of latex, which can adjust to your body shape to relieve pressure points. The latex layers also provide a more rounded feel than memory foam.

Durability

While the Boll & Branch mattress hasn’t been around long enough to determine the durability, the high-quality materials would suggest that it should be a very durable mattress. Latex is generally more resilient than foam, so we would expect the Boll & Branch mattress to have a longer lifespan than many mattresses on the market. Additionally, Boll & Branch offers a 10-year warranty because this was deemed to be the minimum lifespan for the mattress with normal use.

Sex

The combination of two latex layers and two coil layers may make the Boll & Branch mattress particularly good for sex. Latex is generally bouncier and easier to move around on than foam. Additionally, the Boll & Branch mattress’s innerspring layers provide even greater bounce and responsiveness. The use of both latex and coils should allow the Boll & Branch mattress to respond quickly to changes in movement while providing a stable and bouncy surface.

Noise

While the Boll & Branch mattress is quiet, it is unlikely to be as silent as a memory foam mattresses. The coils in the Boll & Branch mattress are individually wrapped, which makes the mattress quieter than many mattresses that use an innerspring system. However, coils can still produce some sound, so the mattress may not be completely silent.

What Type of Sleeper Is Well Suited to a Boll & Branch Mattress?

Side Sleepers: The wool and polyester top layer allows side sleepers to sink in, while the latex layers conform to the shape of their bodies and reduce pressure points. This combination can provide good support for side sleepers. However, the mattress may be too firm to allow side sleepers under 130 pounds to sink in deeply enough to promote spinal alignment.

Back Sleepers: Back sleepers generally benefit from good support that doesn’t sag. The Boll & Branch mattress’s latex layers can regain their shape quickly to provide consistent support for back sleepers. Plus, the two layers of coils in the Boll & Branch mattress provide more precise, targeted support that can help back sleepers maintain proper alignment.

Stomach Sleepers: Since most people carry more weight in their midsections, stomach sleepers usually need a supportive mattress to prevent their midsections from sinking in too deeply. The Boll & Branch mattress’s coil layers can provide sufficient support to prevent excessive sinking and keep stomach sleepers’ spines in better alignment. However, sleepers over 230 pounds may benefit from a slightly firmer mattress that doesn’t allow them to sink in quite as much.

Our Verdict

The Boll & Branch mattress provides luxury with a conscience. The Fair Trade certification signifies that Boll & Branch’s products are made responsibly with respect for people and the environment. Boll & Branch is committed to fair, safe working conditions, sustainable materials, and other socially and environmentally conscious practices.

Beyond that, the Boll & Branch mattress is a solid option for customers looking for a luxury hybrid mattress. Two layers of latex offer bounce, contouring, and breathability. Two layers of coils offer additional bounce, breathability, and support. The Boll & Branch mattress offers enough cooling to accommodate people who tend to sleep hot. Additionally, the mattress’s balance of bounce and motion isolation makes it a good choice for couples who do not want to be awoken by excessive motion transfer but still want a responsive surface for sex.
